Rustchain is a DePIN project designed to reward the preservation and continued operation of vintage hardware. It implements a "Proof-of-Antiquity" consensus mechanism where older machines are incentivized with higher multipliers for their participation. The project leverages AI-powered hardware fingerprinting to verify the authenticity of physical machines, distinguishing them from virtual machines or rented hash power. This verification process includes checks for clock drift, cache timing, SIMD identity, thermal entropy, and instruction jitter. Rustchain supports over 15 CPU architectures, including PowerPC, SPARC, MIPS, ARM, x86, RISC-V, 68K, and Cell BE. It also features a Solana bridge (wRTC) and is developed with Python. The project aims to address the issue of e-waste by providing an economic incentive for keeping functional older hardware in use.
